A nature reserve characterized by an almost heath-like landscape with unusual sand-steppe vegetation and with rich flora and fauna.

From the beach at the mouth of the Verkeån river and over two kilometers out to sea, there are well-preserved remains of a pine forest from the Old Stone Age on the seabed.
The remains include stumps and fallen trunks, the oldest of which are dated with the C14 methodto an age of 10,900 years. In the same area, there are thick layers of mud that were deposited during the Old Stone Age in the ancient flooded valley of the Verkeån. In the mud deposits, archaeologists have found hazel fishing facilities that are over 9000 years old, making them the oldest known in the world.
In addition to the fixed fishing gear, discard stocks from settlements have also been found.
The oldest archaeological finds are about 10,600 years old.
