Knäbäckshusen, Österlen, Sweden
Knäbäckshusen is a wonderfull place where you can fint the old swedish houses and an exotic beach.
This place is very popular among wavesurfers.
Knäbäckshusen is a village on Österlen in Ravlunda parish in Simrishamn municipality .
From 2015, Statistics Sweden delimits a small town here .
The village arose when the Ravlunda firing range was to be expanded in 1956.
At that time, builder Liljedahl from St Olof was commissioned to level the houses in the Knäbäck fishing village with the land, in exchange for receiving the building material.
Liljedahl bought land by the shore of Rörum and built a village with nineteen houses there with the remains of Knäbäck.
He chose the place with Knäbäck as a model: heathland and close to the sea. Liljedahl’s ambition was to create a museum, but when the houses became privately owned from the beginning, this did not become possible.
The houses were sold as they were completed and in 1959 all nineteen houses were ready.
The old Knäbäcks residents were offered to buy a house in Knäbäckshusen, but only one was interested.
The others moved to nearby villages.
One reason why the residents of Knäbäcks did not want to move to the new village, is believed to be that the newly built houses were lavish with, among other things, running water, electricity, WC and electric stove, which made them expensive.
Knäbäckshusen got the character of a summer village from the beginning and was Österlen’s first leisure village.
The houses were sold to people from all over Sweden.
