Smögen Hafvsbad, Smögen
Smögens Hafvsbad is a hotel and health resort in Smögen in Sotenäs municipality.
The original company that founded the sanatorium at Smögen was formed in 1899, and in the summer of the following year Smögen’s Hafvsbad was inaugurated, which then had eight hotel rooms.
The year 1900, when Smögen’s Hafvsbad opened its doors, usually marks the beginning of Smögen as a tourist resort.
The peculiar spelling of the name, with an “f” tucked into the second word, alludes to archaic spelling, although the correct spelling until the early 20th century, before it became sea bathing, was actually sea bathing.
The year 1900, when Smögen’s Hafvsbad opened its doors, usually marks the beginning of Smögen as a tourist resort.
At the opening, Smögen’s Hafvsbad became Bohuslän’s last health resort. The original wooden entrance building on top of Smögen’s cliffs is now a cultural monument, and in 2001 the hotel complex also got an extension, which is partly embedded in the rock.
100 meters from the main building is the side building Läsidan, where there are additional hotel rooms and a gym.
Smögens Hafvsbad today has 76 hotel rooms (of which four are suites), 8 conference rooms, restaurant and SPA.
