Smögen, Sweden
Smögen is an island and a town in Sotenäs municipality, Västra Götaland county. On Smögen is Smögenbryggan, which attracts thousands of tourists every year.
Hasselön forms the north-eastern part of Smögen. The Smögen Bridge’s anchorage on the Smögen side is on Hasselön, which is dominated by residential areas and recreational areas, but there are also fishing sheds, an area with shops and a tennis court.
The main road splits Hasselön into two parts; Hasselösund and Kalvbogen.
In the 1970s, when more and more people moved to Smögen, Smögen’s municipal council decided to build houses on Kalvbogen, a mountainous promontory that was then completely covered in moss.
Around 1975, construction began in earnest, and a few years later Kalvbogen was ready to settle on. In severe winters, the smugglers could cross the ice to Kungshamn, via Kalvbogen.
Smögen is known for its long wooden pier, the Smögenbryggan (about 600 meters), filled with shops in fishing huts, which is very well visited during the summer.
During the summer, there is a fixed ferry connection to Kungshamn with Zitabåtarna and to Hållö with Hållöfärjan. Since 1968, however, Smögen has been connected to the mainland with the Smögen Bridge.
